Top 5 Vietnamese Universities in Emerging Economies 2022 (THE)
On October 19, 2021, Times Higher Education (THE) released the THE Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022.
According to the results, Vietnam has five universities ranked this year, an increase of two institutions compared to 2021.
The THE Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022 include only higher education institutions in countries classified by the FTSE Group of the London Stock Exchange as Advanced Emerging, Secondary Emerging, or Frontier economies.
THE Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022 Overview
A total of 698 universities from 50 countries and territories were ranked.
For Vietnam, three universities had already been ranked previously—Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City—while Ton Duc Thang University and Duy Tan University were ranked for the first time.

Compared to 2021, the rankings of these Vietnamese universities show significant changes. VNU-HCMC maintained its position in the 401–500 range for both 2021 and 2022. Ton Duc Thang University achieved the highest position at 82, followed by Duy Tan University at =107.
This year’s ranking expanded to 698 institutions, an increase of 92 compared with 2021. China continues to dominate the list, with five universities in the Top 10 and 51 institutions in the Top 200. Russia and Taiwan also have universities in the Top 10, while South Africa dropped out of this elite group. Notably, Russia rose to become the second-most represented country in the Top 200, with 17 institutions, five more than Taiwan (12 institutions).
